There are 8 million unpaid caregivers in Canada. Most are overwhelmed, overworked, and emotionally drained.

Our healthcare system leans heavily on family caregivers to care for our seniors, but lacks adequate tools to support them. We want to change that.

Frequently Asked Questions

Respite shifts can be from 3 hours and up, and we will match you with a professional caregiver whom you can interview first, to provide in-home respite care so that you can get a break. All caregivers are pre-screened, vetted rigorously and have relevant home care experience. The caregiver can perform any number of tasks including house chores, personal care for your loved one, dementia care, companionship or errands.

Ideally, we recommend that respite visits be once a week at minimum, but there is flexibility for an irregular schedule if you only need respite occasionally or for specific purposes.

You'll meet virtually with an experienced caregiver coach that we've brought on board specifically to support family caregivers. These sessions are for you to discuss anything that is on your mind. Perhaps you want to get your frustrations out or work through a problem, receive guidance, or just get some emotional support to improve your mental health. Sessions can be 50 minutes or 25 minutes, at your choosing.

These meetings will take place once a month virtually and be moderated by an experienced senior care advisor. These meetings are designed to allow each person to be able to have dedicated time to share a challenge and receive tips and advice to help them problem-solve. Caregiving can be a lonely journey and having a community to lean on is important.

We have partnered with non-profit organizations to support family caregivers who participate in their programs. Currently, we have two non-profit partnerships - one with the ALS Society of BC and the other with the Brain Wellness Program at the Centre for Brain Health. Each of these organizations run respective programs that serve families caring for someone with ALS or chronic brain conditions. When someone chooses to Pay It Forward, they can anonymously sponsor one or more respite visits or a caregiver coaching session, and it will be offered to one of the two organizations noted above for distribution to one of their families participating in their programs.

Why is this important? In our experience, there are many family caregivers who are resistant to the idea of getting help, either because they are hesitant to take that first step, don't know where to turn for help, or they feel a heavy responsibility to do everything themselves. These are the caregivers who are burning out. Being offered a gift of respite will allow them to feel what it's like to take some time back for themselves to rest and recharge.

Yes, absolutely! You can gift respite care to a family member, friend, colleague, client, or anyone else. To start, provide us with your contact details and we will be in touch to get more information about the person to whom you'd like to gift and how and when the gift can be delivered.

Costs vary depending on the length of the respite shift or the caregiver coaching session. We'll discuss the exact costs with you on our first reachout after you submit the contact form.

No - each one is available by itself or you can purchase any combination of the program elements. The caregiver coaching, respite care and care planning sessions are all priced separately, and the Care Mastermind groups are free.
